Williams Memorial Elementary School has been awarded the prestigious Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) Grant, funded by the South Carolina Department of Education. This award will provide important resources to strengthen and expand arts education for all WMES students.

Ruth Mims, Principal, shared, “This grant will allow us to provide high-quality arts education that empowers our students to express themselves and build skills that extend far beyond the classroom. We are grateful to the South Carolina Department of Education for recognizing the importance of the arts in shaping well-rounded, successful students.”

The grant will fund exciting new opportunities for WMES scholars, including:
● Professional artist residencies in African drumming and dance,
● Expanded access to Orff instruments, Boomwhackers, and classroom music resources,
● New 3D printers to support visual art and STEAM projects,
● Enhanced support for student performances such as the Tiger Town Chorus and
school-wide celebrations.

Williams Memorial Elementary extends special thanks to Mr. Seth Phillips, Music Teacher and
Tiger Town Chorus Director, and Mrs. Amanda Bevins, Art Teacher, for their dedication in
writing the grant proposal that secured this award.

With this funding, Williams Memorial continues its commitment to providing meaningful arts experiences that foster creativity, collaboration, and confidence while preparing our students to
meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
