Friday night lights brought excitement and emotion to Woodland Stadium as the Wolverines faced off against rival Bowman. The evening began with the Woodland JROTC cadets presenting the nation’s colors while the Wolverine Marching Band delivered a stirring performance of the National Anthem.
The game opened with some early adversity for Woodland, as Bowman forced the Wolverines into a safety to take a 2–0 lead in the first quarter. But Woodland regrouped and found their footing in the second. With 9:25 left before halftime, running back Dorian Britt gained key yardage to set up quarterback Jervaz’e Salley for a sneak into the end zone. Kicker Gibson Kepley’s extra point gave Woodland a 7–2 advantage.
The Wolverines kept building momentum. With under three minutes remaining in the second quarter, Salley connected with Zane Williams for a touchdown, extending the lead to 14–2 after Kepley’s kick. On their next possession, Kepley added a field goal to make it 17–2. Moments later, Lakye’ White forced a fumble, and Jaemin Pinckney recovered it for a defensive touchdown. Another extra point made the score 24–2 heading into the half.
At halftime, Woodland alum Nyra Govan from Back 2 Basics engaged the crowd with a fitness trivia challenge before the Wolverine Marching Band energized fans with a portion of their competition show.
The second half brought more highlights for Woodland. Salley added another touchdown with 6:08 left in the third quarter, followed by Williams scoring again just minutes later, pushing the lead to 38–2. In the fourth, Lavonte Farray capped the night with a touchdown run, bringing the final score to 45–2.
The Wolverines improve to 2–0 on the season with their second consecutive home victory. They will return to Woodland Stadium this Friday to take on Whale Branch.
